Tell us enough to design the right ice-rink solution
A useful proposal starts with the project conditions, not a generic price per square metre. Send us the information you already know; unknown fields can remain open and be clarified during engineering.
The purpose of this brief is to identify the correct rink technology, refrigeration concept, equipment scope, site requirements and responsibility model before commercial pricing is fixed.
What this form is for
- seasonal and mobile real-ice rinks;
- permanent ice arenas;
- multifunctional ice facilities;
- professional and event ice;
- Ice Worlds and SkateWays;
- synthetic ice rinks;
- turnkey ice-rink rental;
- coordinated equipment packages.
For a single spare part, service fault or general technical question, use the Contact page.
Why we do not quote from square metres alone
Two rinks with the same ice area can require different refrigeration capacity, boards, electrical supply, installation time and operating equipment. The final solution depends on climate, indoor/outdoor conditions, public or sport use, expected demand, base construction, power, technical-area distance, resurfacing and commercial model.
Project brief
The form focuses on the core inputs needed for a first technical review. If you already know additional information such as expected simultaneous skaters, daily visitors, water/drainage availability, preferred chiller location or noise restrictions, add it in the Comments field. These details can also be confirmed during engineering.
Information that improves proposal accuracy
| Information | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Project city and country | Defines climate, logistics and local context. |
| Opening and closing dates | Defines season length, installation deadline and likely weather conditions. |
| Approximate ice dimensions or available area | Starts capacity, refrigeration and board calculations. |
| Indoor / covered / outdoor | Strongly changes the heat-load calculation. |
| Public skating / hockey / figure skating / event / mixed use | Changes ice condition, boards, resurfacing and safety requirements. |
| Expected simultaneous skaters and daily visitor scale | Helps size the ice, visitor flow, skate fleet and operating equipment. |
| Available electrical supply | Can constrain refrigeration size and architecture. |
| Base and surface condition | Influences construction, levelling and installation. |
| Water and drainage | Needed for real-ice build-up, resurfacing and site operation. |
| Possible chiller location / noise restrictions | Affects hydraulics, airflow, sound and logistics. |
| Boards / skates / resurfacer / accessories | Defines whether the proposal is technology-only or a complete operating package. |
| Rental / purchase / both | Defines the commercial and responsibility model. |
Public-skating projects should define peak demand
For early-stage recreational planning, ASHRAE gives approximately 2.3–2.8 m² of ice per person actually skating. This is not a legal occupancy limit, but it is useful when comparing rink size with expected simultaneous users.
If only daily visitor count is known, send that information too. Daily throughput and simultaneous skating capacity are different design inputs.
Site photos and drawings are often more useful than long descriptions
If available, prepare a site or floor plan, photos in several directions, dimensions and level changes, electrical information, possible refrigeration-equipment position, truck/forklift/crane access, nearby noise-sensitive areas, and water/drainage points.
You do not need to choose the technology before contacting us
Describe the operating need first: how long the rink should operate, whether it must be removed, what happens to the space outside the ice season, whether custom geometry is required, whether power/water/plant space is limited and whether the rink is for leisure or professional sport.
SPORTWAVE can then compare EPDM, IceBox, SkateWay®, QuartzPhalt® / IcePhalt®, concrete slab and synthetic ice on the correct project basis.
How we prepare the proposal
- Review the operating concept.
- Check site constraints.
- Define the technology.
- Size refrigeration, hydraulics and operating equipment.
- Clarify SPORTWAVE, client and local-contractor responsibilities.
- Prepare the technical and commercial proposal.
For complex permanent arenas, unusual urban sites or major professional events, a site visit or engineering clarification may be required before final scope is fixed.
Common reasons a proposal cannot yet be finalised
- available electrical power is unknown;
- site or rink dimensions are still changing;
- refrigeration-equipment location has not been identified;
- opening dates are known but installation access dates are not;
- public-skating demand has not been estimated;
- rental and purchase responsibilities are unclear;
- professional-sport requirements are undefined;
- base construction or drainage is unknown.
Before sending the request
If you are still comparing options, see SPORTWAVE Resources. If the project is already defined, send what you know and we will identify the next technical step.
